Power Outages Plunge Newton-le-Willows into Darkness
A double dose of darkness hit Newton-le-Willows today, leaving residents in the lurch. Over 100 homes and businesses were affected by two separate power cuts, causing inconvenience and uncertainty. But here's where it gets controversial: the cause of these outages was an unexpected incident with underground cables, a scenario that can be tricky to resolve.
Electricity North West, the provider, acknowledged the issue, assuring residents that they were working swiftly to restore power. However, they also highlighted the challenges of underground repairs, which could potentially extend the duration of the outage. This is the part most people miss: underground power cuts can be complex and time-consuming to fix.
The first outage, which affected 115 properties, is estimated to be restored by 2.55 pm. The affected postcodes include WA12 8JU, WA12 8JX, and so on (a full list is provided below). The second outage, impacting 14 properties in WA12 8DN, is expected to be resolved by 4.34 pm.
While Electricity North West provides estimated timescales, they emphasize that these are based on previous experience and may change as new information arises during repairs. This uncertainty can be frustrating for residents, leaving them in a state of limbo.
