MLB Trade Rumors: 5 Suitors Named for Freddy Peralta Trade with MIL Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers have a history of trading away their All-Star pitchers before they hit free agency, and with the MLB offseason drawing to a close, it appears Freddy Peralta is on the trading block. According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Brewers are still fielding trade offers for their All-Star starting pitcher, with several prominent clubs expressing interest and engaging in negotiations.
The New York Yankees, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, and Atlanta Braves are among the many teams interested in acquiring Peralta, according to Heyman. With the MLB free agency frenzy for Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette coming to an end, these clubs may now turn their attention to the veteran starter.
Peralta, who will turn 30 in June, earned his second All-Star selection in 2025. He led the National League in wins last season, posting a 2.70 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP while striking out 204 batters across 176 2/3 innings pitched and allowing a .603 OPS.
The Mets have a connection to Peralta, as David Stearns, New York's president of baseball operations, was Milwaukee's general manager when they acquired Peralta from the Seattle Mariners. The Mets are also in the market for a front-line starter after splurging on Bo Bichette in free agency.
The Brewers are looking to capitalize on a market full of pitching-needy teams with limited free agency options. Peralta is in the final year of his contract, making $8 million in 2026, and Milwaukee is aiming to compete next season while also planning for the long term.
Another team to watch is the Baltimore Orioles, who, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, are seeking to add another frontline starter ahead of spring training. The Orioles and Brewers have a history of trading All-Star pitchers, with the Brewers sending Corbin Burnes to the Orioles in February 2024 for Joey Ortiz, DL Hall, and the 34th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft (Blake Burke).
If Peralta is traded, the Brewers would likely receive a starting pitcher in return who is near MLB-ready and could be added to the rotation by the 2027 season. In the meantime, DL Hall could step into the rotation spot vacated by Peralta.
With the trade rumors swirling, the future of Freddy Peralta remains uncertain, and the Brewers are navigating a delicate balance between competing in the short term and planning for the long term.
