Anrealage Fall 2026: LED Fashion Revolution & Ghost in the Shell Inspired Runway (2026)

Bold claim: Anrealage’s Fall 2026 collection is a masterclass in weaving technology and storytelling, showing how fashion can become living media rather than just what we wear. But here’s where it gets controversial… can clothing truly be interactive art that responds to its surroundings, or are we crossing from design into theater at the expense of wearability? And this is the part most people miss: the line between show spectacle and practical innovation is blurrier than it seems, yet Morinaga keeps translating spectacle into real-world possibilities.

Anrealage designer Kunihiko Morinaga presented layered innovations in his autumn lineup, expanding on the tech-forward directions from prior seasons. The collection projected imagery onto the garments, drawing clear inspiration from the cult anime Ghost in the Shell and its meditation on existence. The most breathtaking moments came when the outfits housed 10,000 individually controllable LEDs. These LEDs interacted with the surrounding environment to mirror the background display, so white dresses seamlessly reflected cityscapes projected on the backstage screen and then morphed into a wide array of patterns on cue.

Less theatrical but equally forward-thinking were pieces featuring elements that looked like collars, cuffs, or patchwork—yet these were not mere embellishments. They were actual designs projected onto LED-enabled textiles produced in collaboration with LED Tokyo, activated remotely. Morinaga indicated backstage that some of these interactive pieces will enter commercial production, signaling that clothing as a form of interactive media is moving from concept to consumer reality.

Amid the showmanship, a strong emphasis on pattern and construction revealed Morinaga’s craftsmanship. The silhouettes and motifs blended two seemingly opposed ideas—the floral-inspired, free-spirited ’60s vibe and protective, armored details—into a coherent, futuristic language. The collection featured blurred floral prints in vivid colors, Liberty-inspired patterns, flared trousers with layered or patchwork details reminiscent of armor, oversized cartoonish ruffles, graphic motifs resembling code or circuit boards, rounded puffer shapes, and animé-inspired appliqués that referenced the Ghost in the Shell themes. The show notes summed up the mood perfectly: “a sci-fi prairie heroine or glam-rock protagonist in futuristic Sgt. Pepper finery.”
